The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival is excited to announce the largest and only event celebrating and promoting the Gulf Coast Oyster. The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival is planned for October 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 2009 inside the setting of the authentic fisherman’s village of Bayou La Batre, Alabama. Bayou La Batre, Alabama is a maritime village south of Mobile that revolves around the Gulf of Mexico. The city’s sea side setting provides festival attendees with the freshest oysters, shellfish and seafood straight from the Gulf. A city rich in oyster history, Bayou La Batre’ pumped more than $400 million dollars into the region's economy before Hurricane Katrina. This event is set to help rebuild the economy through the establishment of a new tradition.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival is a three day festival that prides itself in offering non imported, local & fresh seafood vendors. The festival features live music on all three days, plus art vendors, craftsmen, beer vendors, kids area, fresh seafood, oyster eating contests, home brewing demonstrations and an assortment of food from a variety of regions.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival & Brew Fest is honored to be ranked as one of the top events for the state of Alabama. This year’s festival is executed as the biggest and best Oyster festival within a five state region (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana).

Combining great food, great music and life moments, the Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival is a must attend event. The entertainment stage offers a diverse mix of musical genres and regional acts from country, to bluegrass. Additionally, the festival offers fun contests which include, a sing off, an oyster shucking contest, a recipe cook off and of course, an oyster eating challenge.

The festival layout features three tents that include an “Oyster Education Tent” hosted by the Auburn University’s extension program. The educational tent highlights and presents oyster facts to attendees. The second tent is a Brew Fest tent that is provided by the beer sponsor and will feature local brews & beers, home brew workshops and taste areas. The final tent is a kids area that features children’s activities. The kids tent is open from 10a – 5pm each day of the festival.

The artisan & craftsman area will feature a mix of artists, organizations and businesses. The main area is comprised of food vendors which will serve delicious oysters, shell fish, seafood and traditional festival treats for attendees to try. There will be something for everyone to enjoy.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival momentum continues to grow. Planning for this year’s event is currently underway. However, the extent of our reach is dependent largely on the dedication, hard work, and the cooperative efforts of the community.
